Dear brothers and sisters, in our fast-paced world, where noise and distraction are constant companions, it is so important to find moments of stillness to listen to God. The Bible encourages us to be still and know that He is God. This act of being still is not just about physical stillness but also about calming our minds and hearts to hear His gentle whispers.
When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that He often withdrew to solitary places to pray and listen to His Father. Despite His busy ministry, He made it a priority to spend time alone with God. This is a powerful example for us. If Jesus, the Son of God, needed quiet time with the Father, how much more do we?
One key to being still and listening to God is to trust Him completely. Trusting God allows us to let go of our anxiety and rest in His presence. When we are anxious, our minds are cluttered, and it becomes difficult to hear His voice. Remember, dear friends, that God speaks to us in a still, small voice. Elijah experienced this when he was running from Queen Jezebel. God was not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a gentle whisper.
Another important aspect is obedience. When God speaks, we must be ready to listen and obey. Samuel, as a young boy, heard God calling him in the night. He responded with, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” This attitude of readiness and willingness to obey is crucial if we want to hear from God.
Dear brothers and sisters, setting aside regular time for prayer and meditation on God’s Word helps us to be still and listen. By doing this, we create space for His voice in our lives. The Psalms often speak of waiting patiently for the Lord. This waiting is not passive but an expectant, active stillness where our hearts are tuned to hear Him.
In our stillness, we must also remember to be thankful. Gratitude opens our hearts to God’s presence and makes us more receptive to His guidance. Reflect on His goodness and faithfulness in your life, and let this fill you with peace.
